Tips on Creating Tarpaulin Designs

Printing tarpaulins is a cost-effective way for disseminating information to a wide range of people, be it your relatives during your annual reunion, guests on a birthday party, or the public for a momentous event or activity. You can easily stretch it out against a wall or let it hang outside for everybody to see.

However, most of us do not have the equipment to print tarpaulins, and we have to engage the services of printing companies to do the job for us. Unfortunately, in some cases, after we submitted our design to the printer and waited for several hours (or even days) for the final output, we are aghast to see that the images and colors are very different from what we saw on the computer screen. These "errors" may include pixelated images, unreadable texts, and poor print quality.

Paper Brightness

Paper brightness refers to the percentage of light reflected by a sheet of paper, and is expressed on a scale of 1 to 100 with 100 being the brightest. Paper with higher brightness produces vivid and more crisp text, images and color, and is therefore more suitable for printing photographs or colorful graphics. Paper with lower brightness, on the other hand, is best for printing letters and text with few images because extended reading on high brightness paper will strain the eyes. As such, paper brightness will factor in when a person considers whether he will be printing mostly pictures or mostly text.

If the colors of printed images are noticeably darker than their appearance on the computer screen, you might have to look at the brightness of the paper you just used. The brightness level is usually indicated on the paper packaging. Papers with 84 to 98 brightness are suitable for digital printing, and you can work within the range depending on the content of your document.

All About Bond Paper

Bond paper is a type of paper that is ideal for letterheads, memos, presentations, manuals, forms, legal documents, and newsletters, due to its strength, permanence, and durability. The term "bond" was originally applied to papers used for government bonds and other legal documents.

Bond paper is available in 500-sheet reams in different ISO standard (e.g. A4) and North American paper sizes (e.g. letter and legal sizes). Based on the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) paper industry standard, which measures weight in grams per square meter (gsm), bond paper is in the medium textweight range (70-100gsm).
